I would like to wish a very good morning to our
principal, Encik Mustapha bin Haji Yusoff, respected teachers and fellow
students. As the President of the Nature Club, I am truly honoured to have been
given this opportunity to present a speech to you. The title of my speech is “Threats
faced by wildlife and the ways to protect them”.
At
present, there are numerous threats to wildlife. These threats include the unregulated
clearing of jungles, the poaching of animals and the increasing interest in
owning exotic pets. In addition, wildlife is threatened by the selling and
buying of animal products.
Ladies
and gentlemen, there are several ways to protect wildlife. For a start, the
government should take steps to control logging activities. This can be done by
replanting trees which have been logged.
The
government must also enforce the laws which were created to ban illegal
hunting. For instance, strict penalties must be imposed on convicted smugglers.
The trading of live animals must also be banned immediately.
It
is also the responsibility of the government to increase public awareness about
the threats to wildlife. Non-governmental organizations can also work with the
government to provide shelter for rescued wildlife. Lastly, the public can also
do its part by donating money to wildlife conservation efforts.
To
conclude, the wildlife in Malaysia faces a bleak future unless the government
and the public make a concerted effort to protect it. It is hoped that all of
you have learnt something useful from this speech and will do your part in
helping to protect our wildlife. Thank you.
